James (Jim) Lester Cox Jr. of Tulsa, Oklahoma died unexpectedly Friday, February 21, 2020, the day before his 66th birthday. Born February 21, 1954 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jim grew up in Oklahoma, riding horses and being outdoors. At age 16, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Jim was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. After the war, Jim became a champion team roper, loving husband, proud father and "PePaw". An avid hunter and fisherman, Jim loved to be out in nature. When he wasn't hunting or on the water, he could be found serving as an active member at their church or giving 'buggy rides' to his grandkids. He loved to joke with people and could light up a room with laughter. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Marjorie Cox and James Lester Cox and sister Leslie Taylor. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Beth) Shepard Cox, sons Kyle Shepard & wife Lauren of Tulsa, OK, and Jake Cox of Tulsa, OK; his siblings Linda Hughes & husband Larry of Chicago, IL; Jimmy Cox of Waverly, IL; Jerry Doran & wife Teresa of Camarillo, CA; Marla Johnson of Kansas; stepmother Kay Stanley of Waverly, IL ; his 2 grandchildren Sutton & Avery Shepard and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made in his name to "H2O" at West Tulsa Free Will Baptist Church in Tulsa.
