Alma Gladys Garrison

–

Sand Springs, Oklahoma

On Thursday, March 3, 2022, Alma Gladys Garrison, loving wife and mother of two daughters, passed away at the age of 100.

She was born on September 4, 1921, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Leora and Cecil Robeson. While Alma was still a young girl, her mom remarried. Skeet and Leora Ellis' love for each other and for Alma and her sister Bettye created a very caring, family-oriented environment that included grandparents.

After high school graduation and a brief time in the workforce, Alma met a handsome, young man named Andrew Garrison who had recently returned to the States after having served in the army. They fell in love and were married on September 1, 1946. Alma and Andrew had two daughters, Reta Helen and Margaret Ann.

Alma was a housewife and focused on being available for her children. When Margaret, the younger daughter, was in middle school, Alma returned to the workforce and worked in the TPS lunch program.

She had a passion for needlework and cooking (her pies were the best!). But more than that, she loved her church. She especially loved singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School (she taught for 50 years!). And she loved spending time with friends. Many of those friendships were from her church, but close and enduring friendships were also forged with a next-door neighbor and a co-worker in the TPS lunch program.

Alma was preceded in death by her husband Andrew, her sister Bettye Musler, and her grandson Brad Doran. She is survived by her daughter Margaret Hardin and spouse Troy, her daughter Reta Fritchman and spouse Donald, her grandson Joshua Doran and spouse Lyn and their daughter Olivia Grace, her granddaughter Michaela Ward and spouse Park, and nieces Donna Lee and Cheryl Cronin along with their spouses and children.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 9th, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Easton Heights Baptist Church. Donations may be sent to the church at 2901 W. Easton St., Tulsa, OK 74127. Please mark it for "Birthday Offering," which is a special fund donated annually to the Baptist Children's Home in Owasso.
