Donald George Brownlie, known to most as Brownlie/Brownie, was born on the 3rd of January, 1949, in Beverly, Massachusetts, and made his journey home on the 29th of July, 2024. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well." Don's life, lived richly and fully, was a testament to these words.
Don was a proud veteran of the United States Army, a distinction he held with honor and humility. His courage and commitment to his country were as steadfast as his love for the road, a passion he pursued in his career as an over-the-road trucker. His work took him across the vast expanse of the country he so loved, and he found joy in his journeys. In his leisure time, Don found happiness in the roar of the engines and the thrill of the race, a devoted fan of NASCAR and motorsports. He also cherished moments of peace and fellowship, enjoying the uplifting melodies of Gaither Family concerts.
Don is survived by his beloved wife, Martha Blaylock of Berryhill, who was his partner and companion through life's journey. He is also survived by his daughter; Amanda Brownlie of CO; bonus daughters, Kay Lynn Johnson (Tim) of Tulsa and Jamie Lawley (DJ) of Berryhill; bonus son, Michael Blaylock (Christie) of Berryhill; grandkids, Jacie, Christopher, Jonce, Kayley "Sunshine", Samuel, Cody, Cooper, Maddie, and Kade "Tater"; great grands, Kaizlei, Emreigh, Kamrei, Porter, Kreo, Krew, Koehan, and Jhett; sister, Barbara Cornell (Robert) of MA; brother, David Brownlie (Yvette) of ME; 8 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen Brownlie and his brother, Doug Brownlie.
As we remember Don, let us celebrate his life and the lasting impact he made on those around him.
