Galatha House Obituary (1941 - 2024) - Sand Springs, Oklahoma

Galatha Ann McComb was born March 10, 1941, in Missouri. She passed away on February 9, 2024, at the age of 82 in Tulsa. She lived in various cities growing up in Missouri and Kansas and eventually Oklahoma. Galatha was the oldest of four children. When her mother became ill while Galatha was a teenager, she provided care for her mother. She also cared for her younger siblings before and after their mother’s death. Galatha began dating David House, fell in love and married him on April 4, 1960. David joined the Air Force in 1962 and while he was in training, Galatha lived with her husband’s family for a time. Galatha joined David when he was assigned to Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota. She had to endure some brutal winter weather while in South Dakota. One extremely cold day, when David came home, he could not find Galatha. He eventually found her under several blankets and clothes in the bed so she could keep warm. Galatha enjoyed many activities such as gardening, rock collecting, reading, listening to music and cooking. Her potato salad was always a hit with the family at Christmas. Galatha and David loved going to the fair each year and she could spend hours looking at the exhibits. They also liked driving trips, especially to Dodge City, Kansas, and exploring nature. If Galatha saw a plant alongside a country road she liked, she would make David stop the car so she could dig it up to plant in her own yard. In 1971, Galatha and David adopted their only child, Gene House. He was the love of their lives. Galatha and Gene loved to joke around and tease one another even in her final days. Just as Galatha had provided care to her own mother until her death, Gene and his wife provided care for Galatha until the end of her life. Galatha was proceeded in death by her husband, David House, of 62 years, her mother, Erma and stepfather, Wallace Sumpter, as well as her sister, Glenda and twin brothers, Gordon and Garland. She is survived by her son, Gene House and his wife Kristen of Tulsa, two grandsons, Justin House and Joshua House, plus 2 great-granddaughters, MaKenzie and Zoey, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Galatha House will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the Legacy Chapel at Woodland Memorial Park. Interment will follow at the Woodland Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM also at the Legacy Chapel. Funeral services are under the direction of Dillon Funeral Service.
