JoAnn Strickland

JoAnn Vermillion was born in Osage County Oklahoma to Joe Doug and Nancy Vermillion. She grew up in Wynona and graduated from Wynona High School. She was married to Ed Grimes of Barnsdall, OK for 21 years. Having gone to business school to learn secretarial skills including typing and shorthand, she worked in St. Louis, MO to help pay the bills while Ed was in dental school. She was a proud mother of two boys Danny and Marc. JoAnn was a busy homemaker. When the boys were young, she kept them busy with swimming, music lessons, horseback riding, trips to visit Grandma Nancy in Wynona, etc. She was an amazing cook and artist. She had an entrepreneurial gift and created a consignment business in Oklahoma City she ran for over 30 years.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Nancy Vermillion; three brothers, Jessie Vermillion, Charlie Vermillion, Carl Vermillion; six sisters, Viola Melton, Marie Thomas, Addie Mae Sells, Ida Mae Whitaker, Nellie Martin, Bertha Walker; and her husband, Donald Lyle Strickland.

She is survived by her sister, Lela Cramberg; sons, Daniel Joseph Grimes and spouse, Sharon “Candy”, and Marc Edward Grimes and spouse, Crista; grandsons, Daniel Wesley Grimes, Cassidy Grimes, and Noah Grimes; granddaughter, Candace Dee Grimes Johnson and spouse, Kendall Johnson; great-grandsons, Conley William Johnson and Kross Daniel Johnson and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Friends and loved ones are welcomed to attend a viewing on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 9:00am CDT at the Wynona Assembly of God in Wynona, Oklahoma. A funeral service will follow at 10:00am at the same venue. A graveside service will be held at 11:30am at the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy, Oklahoma. Following the graveside service the family will be gathering at the home of Elaine Thomas for a catered meal. Address is 14976 State Highway 99, Hominy, OK.
