Marilyn Irene Vogt, 87, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, went to be with our Lord on January 6, 2019, after a decline in health. Marilyn was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma on December 13, 1931, to J. Harold and Dorothy (Hunter) Moore.
She was a member of the cheerleading squad and the yearbook staff at Guthrie High School where she graduated in 1949. During her years attending Guthrie High School she met her future husband, Calvin Vogt, and she decided she would marry him. Soon after she made that decision Calvin asked Marilyn out for their first date.
Marilyn went on to attend Oklahoma A&M University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where she was chosen as A&M Forestry Queen in 1951. She studied art in Stillwater under teacher Doel Reed, remaining a life-long, devoted admirer of his work. She also maintained a life-long devotion to Oklahoma A&M, later known as Oklahoma State University.
Marilyn and Calvin were married during their Stillwater college years on September 2, 1951. She ultimately settled in Tulsa with Calvin where the couple raised their four boys with Marilyn devoting her time at home to the family. As her boys grew older and needed less of her time, Marilyn enrolled at the University of Tulsa where she earned a degree in Art Education in 1975.
Marilyn loved raising her four boys, and it was her greatest source of pride. She was a very talented artist, and her paintings are displayed in her church, in her retirement village, and in several private residences. She also enjoyed gardening, music, and teaching art lessons to her grandchildren.
Her favorite pastime was to stroll through the woods at their lake house on Ft. Gibson Lake where she was known for the jonquils she grew. Marilyn was an active member of Memorial Baptist Church for over 60 years, where she taught a high school girls class for many years. She also contributed her time to The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges and to the Philbrook Museum of Art.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, Richard H. (Jack) Moore. She is survived by her husband, Calvin Vogt; and her children, Steve Vogt and wife, Kelley of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Stan Vogt and wife, Julia of Garland, Texas, Alan Vogt and wife, Wendy of Lynnwood, Washington, and Brian Vogt and wife Val of Germantown, Tennessee. She is also survived by six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
