Robert Stanley Coffey, 71, of Tulsa Oklahoma, after a valiant battle, died November 20th, 2018, with his dedicated wife, Rioella DePadayhag de Coffey at his side.
Robert Coffey (Bobby), was born May 17th, 1947 in El Tocuyo, Venezuela, to missionaries, Howard S. and Ruth A. (Feuerstein) Coffey. After living in Venezuela, Colombia, and Cuba with his family, Bob graduated in 1965 from Miami Jackson High School. He continued his life long love of learning by earning a Bachelor Degree in Literature from The College of Wooster and a Master's degree in Modern Letters from Tulsa University. He received his Law Degree from Tulsa University. His legal career embodied his fight for social injustice by representing clients in wrongful termination and bankruptcy cases. Bob's innate conviction, passion, skill, and intellect to seek out truth and serve his fellowman was the construct of his very being. His talent as a debater, poet, philosopher, writer, composer, scholar, actor, lawyer, and gardener afforded him the privilege of fulfilling his purpose on this earth.
In the 60's and 70's, he joined CORE (Congress of Racial Equality) and other civil rights organizations to facilitate, defend, and advocate for social justice, many times to his own detriment and against all odds. He lived as an example of being true and loyal to one's convictions, principles, beliefs and deep understanding of Who God is in our lives. He was a man of controversy in his defense of his faith, motivated by his search for truth. His humble appearance and countenance was a contrast to his profound wealth of knowledge and his satirical humor.
He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Rioella Padayhag Coffey; his children, Jacob (Tulsa, OK), Raphael (San Francisco, CA), Alice and Catherine; his grandson, Yadupati; his mother, Ruth A. Coffey of Cuernavaca, Mexico; brothers, John (Lupe) Coffey of San Antonio, TX; Ronald Coffey of Charlotte, NC; William (Jennifer) Coffey of Tulsa, OK; sister, Mary (Robert) Kiser of Cedar Park, TX; his nephews, Jerry Coffey of Laredo, TX and Paul Coffey of Reston, VA; and his nieces, Michelle Carillo of San Antonio, TX; Rachel Coffey of Charlotte, NC; Baily Wilson of Tulsa, OK; Justina Coffey of Tulsa, OK; Lucky Coffey of New Haven, CT; Elizabeth (Kiser) Ramirez, of Houston, TX; Catherine (Kiser) McCallum of Buda, TX; Hannah (Kiser) Hawk of Flagstaff, AZ.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Howard Stanley Coffey (2001), his nephew, Stephen Coffey, (2002) and his sister-in-law, Lenore Coffey (2012).
After your encore, you have taken your final bow. We were privileged to have a seat in the front row. Rest in peace dear Bobby.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.." (2 Timothy 4:2)
