RUSSELL EDWARD MASON
December 18, 1949 - August 3, 2024
Russell Edward Mason passed away on August 3, 2024 at the age of 74. He was residing briefly at the Highlands of Owasso Nursing Facility in Owasso, OK after years of managing his many medical issues at his home. He fought hard to maintain his independence as long as possible. We have his long-time friends, Jerry Ford and Rita Neely to thank for helping make this possible. They provided assistance in his home for many years and for that, his family is eternally grateful.
Russell was a true Okie, living in Oklahoma his entire life. He was born on December 18, 1949 to parents Louis Edward Mason and Vieda Newton Mason. Unfortunately, his parents divorced when he was just a baby, so there were many caretakers in Russell’s young life. A lovely foster family cared for him his first two years, then his stepmother, Judy Newport Mason came into his life for the next seven years and, of course, there were his paternal grandparents, Oscar and Bytha Mason, in addition to his parents and others. There was a lot of moving and family changes during Russell’s early years, but he was always such a smiling, happy go lucky little boy, in spite of this. His delightful, playful sense of humor carried him through his childhood and beyond.
Russell graduated from Central High School. He was a hard worker and worked for over 25 years in the Sign Industry as an Installer. Eventually, he became a business owner himself, serving his many customers throughout Oklahoma. He excelled at fixing problems and constructing solutions for friends, family and business colleagues as well. He loved helping people.
Russell was an avid fisherman and camper, loving to escape and enjoy downtime at the lake any chance he could get. His laughter will be remembered by many as joyous and infectious and he always had a positive thing to include in any conversation. His sense of humor and inquisitive love of life will be missed by many.
Russell was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, older brother Douglas Brashers and Beverly Brashers, the mother of his beloved son, Brian J. Mason.
His survivors include son Brian, daughter-in-law, Beasley Mason, grandchildren, Max and Isla Mason, brother, Michael Mason, sister, Tracy Flynn, several step-children and grandchildren, Uncles, R.C. Mason and Wally Mason, and dear friends, Jerry Ford and Rita Neely.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 in the Dillon Funeral Service Legacy Chapel in Sand Springs with Pastor Josh Drury officiating. Services are under the direction of Dillon Funeral Services and condolences may be shared at www.dilloncares.com
