Shirley (Hockman) Palmer

–

Sand Springs, Oklahoma

Shirley (Hockman) Palmer died peacefully in her home on May 6, 2018, at the age of 89. Even in her last days, she could be heard singing from her bedroom. She is survived by daughter Gretchen Hoss (Ben de Luna) and son Tim Hoss (Janice), grandchildren Lesli, Marisa, Eli and Noah. She was preceded in death by her daughter Marisa Streetman, husband Charles Palmer, her parents and her siblings.

Shirley was born August 26, 1928 in Cassville, MO. Even as a child, Shirley was creative, dedicated, and resourceful. Whether cooking, crafting, parenting, or simply living, she had a talent for making even the smallest things special, and the people around her, in turn, felt special too. She was kind, gentle, patient and generous. At her core she was a musician; an accomplished violinist, she played with the Tulsa Philharmonic as a teen; an ardant vocalist, she participated in choral groups and music ensembles throughout her life. She was spontaneous, joyous, she lived with an open heart and helped others to follow suit. She was a lifelong member of the Church of God.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Robin Hendricks and Sally and Steve Knight for the unwavering dedication and tender care they showed to our mom over the past few years. The family also thanks Grace Hospice for their care and guidance in the last weeks of Shirley's life.

A visitation is scheduled at noon on Friday, May 11, at the South Sand Springs Church of God (Springs Church) with the funeral immediately following at 1 p.m. The church is located at 4700 S. 129th West Ave. in Sand Springs. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Shirley's life.
