William (Bill) Harvey Taylor, Sr., a lifetime resident of McKinney, Texas, was born on\r\nNovember 5, 1942 in McKinney, Texas to Alvin Wilson and Francis Elizabeth Gibbs Taylor. Bill\r\nwent to his heavenly home in McKinney, on April 8, 2019, surrounded by his family.\r\nBill attended McKinney schools throughout his young years and was a member of the original\r\nBoy Scout Troop 303 at the First United Methodist Church in Mckinney. He graduated from\r\nMcKinney High School with the class of 1962 where he was active in football, track and\r\nbasketball. Following graduation he attended University of Texas and Texas A&M to obtain\r\nhis law enforcement degree. In 1963, Bill married his high school sweetheart, Joan Durham.\r\nThey actually met in Jr. High School, have been together 63 years, and married 55 years.\r\nBill spent a lifetime in law enforcement beginning with the McKinney Police department from\r\n1963 - 1967. He then worked for the Plano Police department 1967-1968. Bill then began\r\nserving the Farmers Branch Police Department earning the ranks of Sergeant and Detective\r\nSergeant until retirement in 1991. Bill continued his law enforcement career with the Collin\r\nCounty Sherriff's Department until 2008 at which time he took his final retirement.\r\nBill liked to hunt, fish, and spend as much time with family, especially grandkids, as possible.\r\nHe was a life-time member of the First United Methodist Church in McKinney, was an active\r\nand influential member of the McKinney and Collin County communities. Bill was known for\r\nhis kindness and generosity and will be missed by his community. Bill's entire family was\r\neverything to him. He was the Rock and Peace keeper of the family. Bill was a man of\r\ncompassion and love and saw the good in all.\r\nSurvivors include wife Joan Taylor: daughter Tami Taylor Haynes of McKinney: son William\r\n"Billy" Taylor, Jr., of McKinney: brother Robert and wife Judy Taylor of Tulsa, OK:\r\ngrandchildren, Taylor"Tater Bug" Greene and husband Tony Greene of Fairview, TX,\r\nAlison"Ali Gator" Haynes of McKinney: Clara "Butter Bean" Taylor of McKinney: William\r\n"Little Man" Taylor, III, of McKinney: great- granddaughter McKenzi "Cookie" of Fairview; and\r\nexpected soon, great- grandson Rory "Bear" of McKinney. Bill's family also includes family\r\npets Ethel, Sweet Lucy, and Fredrick Hopper; numerous nieces, nephews, and other family.\r\nBill was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Francis Taylor, brother E.L. "Tinker" Taylor\r\nand multiple family pets he so dearly loved.\r\nBill's life will be celebrated April 19, 2019 at 2:00pm at the First United Methodist Church\r\nMcKinney, TX. A reception will be held following the committal service at Bry and Jenny\r\nTaylor's 1933 Penbroke Lane, McKinney, TX 75070.\r\nThe Taylor family wishes to thank their many friends for their love and support during this\r\ndifficult time.
